DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
Let’s face it… You know a consistent training habit would help.
But between the shows, the travel, and the odd hours, it never quite happens. And if it does, you're following generic gym advice that was never built for someone who has to perform for a living.
Either way, the same things get in the way:
You either train hard, then show up to the gig stiff or wiped out
Or you’re too scared of being sore so you leave adaptations on the table
You're constantly chasing PBs and grinding to failure (because that's the only way you know to progress)
You have a run of shows, then travel, then nothing… No generic plan can survive your erratic schedule
On tour you're at the mercy of whatever hotel gym you can find so even if you can train, it’s inconsistent.
So you end up stuck in the viscious circle: You start, life gets in the way, and you end up back at square one.
The 3 Pillars of The Training Club
Training
Strength, conditioning, mobility & more, designed and programmed in a way that slots directly into your life alongside your performing schedule. Every exercise can be done in the gym or adapted so you can train anywhere, whether you’re in a hotel room, backstage at a gig, or on tour passing through the middle of nowhere.
You no longer have to choose between training for your playing and training for yourself. The Training Club gives you both.
Education
The Clubhouse contains a growing library of articles, videos, handbooks and guides to support you at every stage of your training. Most plans hand you the fish (the workouts) and leave it there. The Training Club helps you build your own fishing rod, so you understand how to better train yourself as an occupational athlete.
At the end of the day, knowledge gives you the option of choice. And with the Clubhouse, you can choose exactly how deep you want to get into your training.
Community
The Clubhouse puts you in a space with musicians all over the world who take their careers as seriously as you do. Ask a question and you're not just getting my answer. You're tapping into a hive mind of players with their own experiences and solutions.
Whether it's support when you're stuck or accountability when you can feel yourself drifting, the community has got your back.
Fair warning: this probably won't look like the training you're used to.
Most programmes are built for people whose only movement that day is in the gym. Yours isn't. You've got a show tonight. So two things work differently here…
Most training tells you to do three sets of ten and add weight every week. That works fine, until you've got a gig that evening. The Performance Conditioning Dynamic Intensity System teaches you to train using a specific, highly tested approach, so you progress properly without ever training yourself into a corner. Ultimately, your availability to play comes above all else, and your training should reflect that fact.
At a professional level, bad days and injuries are rarely a practice problem. They're a load management one. In The Training Club, you'll learn how to read your physiology with the help of weekly check-in forms reviewed directly by Chris, so you can train, perform, and recover more intelligently.
What the members say
“I’ve made more progress over the last year than I did in the previous five. And the improvements in how I navigate life have been invaluable.”
“I’d trained consistently for years but couldn’t escape a cycle of progression and injury. With Chris’s guidance, I’m finding more functionality across all areas, not just strength, and I’m finally making progress again.”
“I’d trained consistently for years but couldn’t escape a cycle of progression and injury. With Chris’s guidance, I’m finding more functionality across all areas, not just strength, and I’m finally making progress again.”
“He explains high-level, complex concepts in digestible bites and quickly spots your weak points. His way of looking at the body and brain holistically makes so much sense. I question why more people aren’t approaching performance this way.”
“Every exercise he’s curated adds value to my daily life and function, as well as to my work as a musician.”
“Working with Chris and his physio feels like being a Premier League footballer with a full-stack, integrated performance team who actually talk to each other.”
“I’ve got better posture, even day to day. I’ve always envied ballet dancers’ posture — I’m amazed how quickly I noticed a difference.”
“Is it worth it? Definitely. It’s had a massive effect on how I think about my instrument, as well as my day-to-day routines.”
Your livelihood requires you to be injury-free.
Yet, sadly, up to 93% of professional musicians experience an injury in their career. Those numbers in professional sport would be enough to trigger a government inquiry.
That's where niggleIQ comes in.
niggleIQ is a triage tool, exclusive to The Training Club, that allows you to report changes or issues in your training and performance in an instant, so we can keep an eye on it, adapt your plan, or refer out to a world-class team of musician-specific medical professionals if needed.
Pain is not something you should push through or deal with alone, and this tool has been designed specifically with that in mind.
About Chris
Chris is a professional drummer, personal trainer, and performance coach with over two decades of experience in the industry.
He spent his early years as a Jazz musician, working mainly out of clubs like Ronnie Scott's, before moving into theatre work, where he is now the chairholder on Hamilton in the West End. He has also provided drums for TV, film and major streaming platforms.
In 2023, he suffered two traumatic brain injuries, changing his relationship with music forever.
Performance Conditioning came out of his 3-year rehab journey back to full health, and along the way, he qualified in personal training, exercise science and strength and conditioning. He has written extensively on the topic (including a book) and now coaches professional musicians all over the world.

HYPOTHETICALLY Asked Questions
-
There are many, but from a performance perspective, the main benefits include feeling more grounded and connected to your instrument, increased resilience, and a sense of durability.
Outside of the performance benefits, you’ll experience a decrease in body fat, and increase in muscle mass, a more defined physique, and an overall sensation of just “feeling good”.
-

-
Yes, and it’s arguably the better time to start. While you can build capacity while you’re busy, it’s even better built in the quiet periods while you’re not juggling so much work. Coming into a heavy run already conditioned is the strongest position to be in.
-
Neither. While there are some easier exercises than others, they are balanced to suit everybody, and because you will learn how to correctly balance the intensity of the sessions, both a beginner and a seasoned lifter can benefit.
-
Yes. The Training Club is for all musicians.
-
Injury history is normal and expected — it’s part of the onboarding process. For more complex needs there’s a specific onboarding route. Please message me before joining and we’ll work out whether it’s a fit. Members need to be 18+.
-
Typically 45-60 minutes, 2–3 times a week. Each session is structured with a warmup, two main circuits, and a cool down, delivered through the Everfit app with video for every movement, and a detailed text walkthrough.
-
You train when you want. Nothing is scheduled and there’s no session you have to show up to. The only fixed sessions are the live calls and seminars, but these are also recorded and posted to the group for on demand playback.
-
The Training Club is a structured programme. You can also upgrade to Club Plus which includes personalised programming and 1-1 form feedback.
-
Yes. Two.
Club (£59/month) is the programme, the app, the check-in and the community. This is a rolling, monthly contract.
Club Plus (£165/month) adds individualised programming and direct coaching contact through a 3 month training block. Club Plus is capped at 15 spaces.
-
A gym makes it easier but isn’t required. Every session has tour swaps for minimal or no equipment, so a hotel room with a bit of floor space works. To use the tour option, you need a suspension trainer (or rings), a set of loop bands, and a slide pad. If you want to train at home you can use this set up and add a couple of free weights for a nice middle ground.
-
That’s the normal case for the club members, not the exception. The programming is designed to travel with minimal equipment, adjustable session lengths, and weekly check in’s that allow us to keep tabs on your training, performance schedule, and recovery to ensure everything is being balanced correctly.
-
Monthly memberships are a 3 month minimum term. This is because I believe it takes time to find your rhythm and start to see the results of the work. Patience is key. After that, you can cancel any time.
-
Yes. Pause for up to 2 months. This is useful if you’ve got a long break or something’s come up that means you can’t train.
-
If you don’t like what you find here (even though I’m sure you will), The Club has a 14-day no-questions refund policy.
-
Some people notice changes in their performances in as little as one week. You’ll notice changes in your physique within 3 months. And your friends will notice within 6.
-
Best thing to do is to reach out to me directly so we can have a chat. Every situation is different. If the answer is yes and you experience a flare up in your training once you’re in, my triage tool, niggleIQ, takes under a minute to complete and flags anything to me so we can make adaptions where needed, or get you referred out to one of my specialist care team.
-
The programming here uses every trick in the book to keep you from being sore. Soreness, after all, is not a marker of adaptation. It is, however, a sign of novelty, so you may experience some light soreness in your first week.
